Braddock, PA mayor John Fetterman on the Colbert Report last night. Braddock is 2 towns over from where I grew up, and I attended 4th grade at Ben Fairless Intermediate school (which, because of the general awfulness of the school district and the neighborhood prompted my parents to move my brother and I to Catholic school). My mother would tell me how nice Braddock had once been, but I never believed her, because it’s always been a run-down place in my mind, and a I know can’t see it or think of it without associating it with the destruction left in the wake of the steel industry’s collapse.
But the mayor of the borough on a Colbert? That’s interesting. It turns out that he’s trying to raise awareness of the borough’s downfall and to lobby for their share of the stimulus bill. A few random thoughts on the appearance:
- This guy is HUGE. Like a wrestler or something. Crazy
- I can’t substantiate his claim of average housing price being $6200, but I can understand the sentiment for sure
- He’s having the date of each murder in the borough tattooed on him? My snarky response is that the reason he isn’t COVERED in ink is the low population.
